North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein announced that Johnson & Johnson plans to establish a multibillion dollar manufacturing facility in Wilson. The company expects the project to make medicines for oncology and neurological diseases and create up to 500 jobs.
The development marks the third time in roughly a year that Johnson & Johnson selected North Carolina for advanced medicine manufacturing. In October 2024, it unveiled plans for a $2 billion pharmaceutical manufacturing campus in Wilson focused on biologics. The company has begun construction and hiring, with plans to create 420 jobs.
In August 2025, J&J secured a new 160,000-square-foot site in Holly Springs for biopharmaceutical manufacturing. The company said the $2 billion commitment over the next 10 years will create 120 jobs.
The newest project expects to receive a $12 million legislative appropriation to expand a training center at Wilson Community College, as well as a grant from the state’s Industrial Development Fund – Utility Account.
Partners involved in the development include the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, the North Carolina General Assembly, the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, the North Carolina Community College System, the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, Wilson Community College, the BioPharma Crescent, Wilson County, the Wilson Economic Development Council and the City of Wilson.
Johnson & Johnson also recently revealed plans to build a cell therapy manufacturing site in Pennsylvania expected to create hundreds of jobs.
