Manufacturing Building Storing Hand Sanitizer Burns Down

The fire isn't the only thing being investigated.

A fire burned down a manufacturing building in Chickasha, Oklahoma, holding some 1.5 million gallons of alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

Oklahoma station News 9 reported the 120,000-square-foot facility was filled halfway to the ceiling with about 8,000 pallets of hand sanitizer.

Nearly 100 firefighters at the scene were forced to defensively combat the blaze.

KOCO News 5 reported the firefighters did not use water to put out the fire for fear of the alcohol content getting into drinking water.

The Oklahoma State Fire Marshal’s office is assisting in investigating the blaze and the storage of hazardous liquid.

According to an agent supervisor, the building was not permitted to be occupied at the time of the fire.

The fire is expected to burn for several days.
