Confectionary giant Ferrero has officially expanded production of its Nutella brand to the U.S. for the first time.

The company late last month held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new production line at its plant in suburban Chicago that will produce Nutella Peanut — the first new flavor of the famed Italian chocolate-hazelnut spread.

Ferrero said that the $75 million expansion in Franklin Park, Illinois, would create 50 new jobs and further expand its rapidly growing U.S. footprint.

"Nutella Peanut and this new facility showcase Ferrero's dedicated and talented teams, commitment to growth in North America, and the company's ability to thoughtfully and effectively evolve brands that have been loved for generations," Ferrero North America President and Chief Business Officer Michael Lindsey said in a statement.
