Details Emerge Over Tesla's Mexican Interests

The company has reportedly toured the site, but hasn't made any commitments yet.

A Mexican official yesterday confirmed previous rumors over a new Tesla plant in Mexico.

According to Jesus Ramirez, a presidential spokesman, the EV maker could build a new assembly plant near a Mexico City airport.

Ramirez told Reuters that the plant would be located in an industrial park about two miles from Felipe Angeles International Airport.

Ramirez says the factory would be an export hub for Tesla.

The company has reportedly toured the site, but hasn't made any commitments yet.

Still, Ramirez remains confident, telling a local newspaper, "Tesla will invest [in Mexico]."

The T-MexPark is a significant new industrial park currently under construction.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has previously expressed interest in a new plant just over the Mexican border.
