Volta Trucks today announced more than $92.4 million in firm orders for the company's first 300 electric trucks.
The confirmed orders are for the full-electric Volta Zero, a medium duty urban delivery truck that will compete against Rivian, Terraline and Einride, among others.
The 16-tonne vehicle is designed for urban logistics, namely freight deliveries in city centers.
The vehicles have an operating range of 95 to 125 miles and will eliminate an estimated 1.9 million tonnes of CO2 by 2026, according to the company.
The trucks are scheduled for delivery this year with production set to begin at the company's Austrian contract manufacturing facility in Q2 2023.
Volta stopped short of providing customer-specific details, but it’s primarily focused on operations across all major cities in Europe and the UK.
Volta’s workforce grew by more than 200% in 2022, to nearly 700 employees.
The company has now raised the equivalent to some $391 million in total investment, and previously announced pre-orders for 6,500 trucks across all markets and models.
