Hobart Brothers LLC (Troy, OH) introduced its Fabshield FE80 and Fabshield FE81 self-shielded flux-cored wires for structural steel erection, bridge fabrication and general manufacturing. The wires are designed for maintaining mechanical properties across wide heat inputs, providing 80 ksi tensile strength, delivering low-hydrogen weld deposits (<8ml/100g) and eliminating or reducing preheat requirements.

They can be used in AWS D1.8 Demand Critical seismic welds, moment and column splice connections, flat and horizontal welding and all-position structural applications.

Features:

  • Delivers 80 ksi tensile strength, yield strength and elongation needed for Grade 65 steels while maintaining weldability of lower-strength 70 ksi wires
  • Formulated with H8 low-hydrogen properties to help reduce or eliminate preheating requirements in select applications
  • Offers high-impact strengths at low temperatures (exceeding AWS specs for Charpy V-Notch impact values) to help resist weld cracking in severe conditions
  • Optimized for flat and horizontal welding using Direct Current Electrode Positive (DCEP), providing deposition rate of 10.4 to 20 lbs/hr in 3/32-inch (2.4mm) diameter
  • Designed for all-position welding using Direct Current Electrode Negative (DCEN), offering deposition rate of 4.8 to 12.5 lbs/hr in 5/64-inch (2.0mm) diameter
