Thermo Fisher Scientific said it's cutting about 70 positions at its facility in Middleton, Wisconsin.
The company said it plans to consolidate its U.S. Bioanalytical laboratory operations at its Virginia facility. It will allow for continued expansion of Good Manufacturing Practice (CMP) laboratory operations in Middleton, and allow many of the impacted workers to transition to new positions at the same facility.
In a statement, Thermo Fisher called the eliminated positions part of its efforts to "continuously evaluate its operations to identify opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness to best meet our customers’ needs."
"Middleton remains an important GMP center of excellence within our global network, and our commitment to the site, our customers, and the community remains strong. We are focused on supporting affected employees with dignity, respect, and appropriate resources throughout this transition," the company said in a statement.
The eliminated positions in Middleton follow other recent workforce moves by Thermo Fisher, including a decision earlier this year to wind down operations a plant in a Boston area and layoff around 80 workers.
