The nation’s largest commercial baker plans to relocate its headquarters from suburban Philadelphia to North Texas, company officials announced last week.

Bimbo Bakeries USA, the U.S. division of Mexico’s Grupo Bimbo, will move from Horsham, Pennsylvania, to Dallas, which the company said offers a more centralized location and greater proximity to the global headquarters in Mexico City — allowing for more collaboration and faster decision-making.

The new headquarters would also support its “long-term growth strategy” and complement its other facilities in the Dallas area, including bakeries, distribution centers and sales offices. The company said its senior leadership and “many other positions” are already working from the new hub.

“Relocating our headquarters to Dallas positions us to operate more efficiently as we continue to invest in our brands and our communities,” Bimbo Bakeries USA President Greg Koehrsen said in a statement.

The company was based in Pennsylvania for 17 years, and said that it would continue to house a sales center and other operations in metro Philadelphia. The announcement did not indicate how the decision would impact its workforce in Pennsylvania.
