igus (East Providence, RI) is now offering the RX energy tube, which was developed especially for the machine tool industry, and is nearly 100 percent chip-proof. The domed outer contour allows debris — such as metal or wood chips — to simply fall off the tube. In addition, the energy tube is nearly 100 percent airtight, according to the company. Additional features include:
- The ability to open the energy tube using bolts, which are integrated into the outer radius of each link.
- A large interior space for cables and hoses, which can be separated using vertical separators and a horizontal shelf.
- An interior height of 2.2”.
- The availability of a high-temperature version, which ensures that red-hot metal chips up to 1,562°F will fall off the tube rather than melt onto it.
