The LUMICLAD finish, for metal components requiring break-in lubricity and galling resistance when mating aluminum surfaces, is now available from Birchwood Casey (Eden Prairie, MN). The LUMICLAD process forms a non-dimensional black oxide finish on all aluminum surfaces that is clean, durable, and tightly adherent to the metal substrate, according to the company. The 30-minute process develops a uniform coating thickness of 0.00006 inches that will not close down hole diameters or change critical part dimensions. Other features include:
- A black finish that is smooth, clean, and electrically-conductive.
- The ability to use the coating for assemblies requiring a chassis ground.
