The IDEA stepper motor drive platform from Haydon Kerk Motion Solutions, Inc. (Waterbury, CT) now has the capability of communicating using an RS-485 data protocol. Industrial equipment, such as stepper drives, motor drives, and servo systems, can now have the advantage of long data transmissions with resistance to electrical noise. The RS-485 protocol utilizes “differential” signal lines for limiting common mode noise coupling and twisted pair cabling for cancelling out induced noise current. This allows IDEA devices to communicate over a network of 1000 feet without the need for termination resistors. The IDEA platform is RoHS compliant, small footprint, and fully programmable.
