New Coating Technology

This new coating technology offers superior bond and uniform layering of the CVD coatings, according to the company.

Friction shortens tool life, impedes metal removal rates, and roughs up workpiece surface finishes. Reducing kinetic friction is a key to improved productivity, longer tool life, and improved surface finish. ATI Stellram (LaVergne, TN) has developed a new coating technology that offers superior bond and uniform layering of the CVD coatings. Proprietary processing produces a jewelry like finish. Five new Stellram® NL turning grades are specifically engineered to provide optimum performance in a given application and workpiece material, resulting in increased metal removal rates, improved surface finishes, and up to 30 percent longer tool life, says the company.
