After years in development, Amazonβs drone delivery program just passed a key regulatory milestone.
The FAA has announced it will grant approval for the company to operate its fleet of delivery drones.
The ruling gives Amazon the ability to deploy packages on drones even if the drones are out of sight of the sender.
Amazon says the approval βindicates the FAAβs confidenceβ in autonomous drone deliveries, and that the company will continue to develop and refine its technology.
The e-commerce company hopes to continue to work with regulators globally in order to advance its goal towards 30-minute delivery timeframes.
But donβt expect to see a fleet of Prime Air drones overhead just yet.
Amazon says the fleet isnβt ready to deploy, but they are βactively flying and testing the technology.β
