OPELIKA, Alabama — A global automotive components manufacturer has announced plans to establish a new production facility in east Alabama, bringing 75 jobs and more than $9 million in capital investment

GMB USA Alabama, a subsidiary of Japan-based GMB Corporation, will make precision automotive components for hybrid electric vehicles at its new plant.

The parts, including active purge pumps, electric water pumps, electric oil pumps, integrated thermal management systems and mechanical water pumps, enhance vehicle efficiency, reduce energy loss and contribute to lower emissions.

The new facility will help meet the increasing demand from automotive manufacturers across North America for hybrid-electric vehicle components and support the region’s expanding automotive supply chain.

Byoung Young Song, president of GMB Korea Corporation, said, "GMB aims to create stable jobs and revitalize the local economy in Opelika."

About two years ago, the area was hit hard when Baxter Healthcare closed its medical device manufacturing plant in Opelika, eliminating some 500 jobs.

This is GMB's second location in the U.S. The company's North American headquarters, GMB North America, is located in New Jersey. GMB Group operates multiple global locations in Japan, Korea, China, Thailand, Russia, Romania, Australia and India, according to the company's website.
