Toyota’s Refrigerated Vaccine Vehicle

It’s the first in the world to achieve the proper standard for vaccine transport.

Toyota and B Medical Systems recently announced that their vehicle is the first in the world to meet the World Health Organization’s standards for transporting vaccines.

It combines a Toyota Land Cruiser 78 with B Medical Systems’ DV850 vaccine refrigerator.

Mandatory vaccines for infants usually require storage at 35 to 46 degrees Fahrenheit (two to eight degrees C).

Vaccines can’t be used if they’re stored at the wrong temperature, which plays a part in an estimated 1.5 million children dying from vaccine-preventable diseases each year.

The refrigerator can hold up to 400 vaccine packages, and runs on an independent battery that can be charged by the vehicle or an external power source.

At full charge, it can operate for an estimated 16 hours without a power supply.
