Nissan motorsports, Nissan Design America and Forsberg Racing will combine efforts to transform a Nissan Frontier PRO-X – evolving the vehicle into what’s been described as “a low-riding, performance-driven beast.”
Dubbed the Frontier TARMAC, this one-of-a-kind muscle truck is coming to a track near you.
Unveiled at this year’s SEMA Show, the concept vehicle was developed with an eye towards reviving the trend of the low rider truck – but with some fun and modern updates. These include tons of horsepower to the rear wheels in a nod to their track-readiness, as well as a water-cooled supercharger for the V6 engine.
The designers say they boosted the truck’s output to 440 horsepower and 400 lb-pounds of torque by incorporating a prototype carbon fiber NISMO cold air intake, as well as a performance cat-back exhaust.
Handbrake drifting is enabled by custom-mounted NISMO brakes, and a ground-hugging suspension based on a customized design with fully adjustable coil-over suspension in front and a rear flip kit.
According to Nissan, it’s been partnering with racing legend Chris Forsberg since 2003 when he bought his first 350Z. Since then, he’s participated in many races using Nissan vehicles, some customized by his team.
Recently, Forsberg collaborated with NISMO Off Road on the Frontier Forsberg Edition, an off-road version now available for all 2022 and newer Frontier pickups.
Forberg said he wanted to “bring back nostalgia” without sacrificing performance, adding: “You can have a fun, fast, track-ready truck and still throw stuff in the bed."
