38,000 Pairs Burn at Luxury Shoe Factory

The Valentino brand has been worn by celebrities from Jackie Kennedy to Julia Roberts.

The Italian fashion brand Valentino is known for its elegant clothing and accessories, worn by celebrities from Jackie Kennedy to Julia Roberts.

But the billion-dollar company had a recent setback when a factory in Tuscany was devastated by fire.

In early April, a fire broke out that ultimately destroyed 90 percent of the “Valentino Shoes Lab” along with 38,000 pairs of shoes.

No one was injured in the fire, which took place when the plant was closed.

The company has been working with the union in order to develop an action plan that allows employees to get back to work.

Another Valentino factory will facilitate double shifts while other workers will resume operations at a nearby factory borrowed from fellow Italian luxury brand, Prada.

Valentino’s signature “Rockstud” shoe is one the factory regularly produced, some of which retail at $1,500+ per pair.
