Fasteners are essential to modern life; it is easy to forget just what an important role they play. Automakers have reported that the majority of their warranty costs arise from fastener related issues – ranging from the simple rattle in the dashboard coming from a loose tapping screw to a major recall resulting from mis-torqued high strength fasteners in the steering system. Choosing The Proper Fastener When Automating

The fastener is as important when automating as the automation equipment itself. Choosing the right fastener may prevent exorbitant machine and fixture costs, decrease set-up and cycle times, as well as reduce the manufacturing cost of the components. One of the biggest motivators for automatic over manual fastening is increasing productivity and reducing costs. Unfortunately, many don’t realize the impact the fastener has on achieving these goals.
