OR House Passes Bill To Track Toxic Chemicals

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon House passed a bill Tuesday that would set up a public database to track 19 toxic chemicals used in children's toys and products and would require manufactures to remove the chemicals from their products within five years.

The bill, which passed 39-21, would require companies with gross sales of more than $5 million per year to report the presence of the chemicals in their products. Manufacturers would have five years to phase out the chemicals from their products. The bill now heads to the Senate.

GM Breaks Ground On China Cadillac Plant

SHANGHAI (AP) — General Motors Co. executives broke ground for a new Cadillac factory in China on Wednesday to target luxury buyers in the world's biggest auto market, though they said the segment would grow slower than expected this year.

Company leaders said they were optimistic about long-term growth in the luxury segment and have aggressive plans to expand Cadillac's dealer network.

U.S. Senators Introduce Export Bill

United Tech Sees Impact From Fraud Charge

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A federal court order that United Technologies Corp. pay $473 million plus interest to compensate for alleged fraud in its sale of fighter jet engines could cut into revenue and profit, the aerospace giant said in a regulatory filing.

Judge Thomas M. Rose of the U.S. Southern District Court of Ohio issued the order on Monday. The Department of Justice had accused United Technologies subsidiary Pratt & Whitney of violating the False Claims Act, resulting in alleged overpayments for F100 jet engines from 1985 to 1990.

Aerospace Company To Expand In OK

GROVE, Okla. (AP) — An Australian aerospace company says it will open a facility in Grove, Okla. and hire 20 workers.

Gov. Mary Fallin announced Tuesday that Ferra Engineering would expand in Oklahoma. The governor made the announcement from the Paris Air Show.

Fallin says Oklahoma is a top destination for aerospace companies and she's pleased Ferra Engineering would be adding the Grove location.

Fire At PA Titanium Plant Causes $3.5M In Damage

MORGANTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Investigators say a fire earlier this week at a titanium-manufacturing plant in eastern Pennsylvania caused $3.5 million in damage and has been ruled accidental.

The blaze started in a building at the Timet Corp. facility in Caernarvon Township (KUH'nar-ven) around 8 p.m. Monday. Officials say it happened in a large building where raw materials are stored. No one was hurt in the fire, which took about three hours to control.

Tesla Model S Recalled For Rear Seat Latch Issue

PALO ALTO, Calif. (AP) — Tesla is recalling as many as 1,228 of its Model S vehicles, citing a problem with a rear seat latch in the electric sports sedan.

The company says no injuries or customer complaints have been reported.

Chairman and CEO Elon Musk said in a blog entry Wednesday that the strength of a mounting bracket for the rear, left seat latch may be weaker than intended.

The issue was discovered June 10 and the company notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
