Work With Super-Tough Alloys

Mon, 02/07/2011 - 7:56am

Seco Tools (Troy, MI) has announced its new CBM 170 grade, the first PCBM grade developed specifically for the finish turning of nickel-based super alloys. The CBM 170 is designed for both toughness and wear-resistance, which makes it ideal for materials like Inconel 718, UDIMET, Waspaloy, MAR M, and more, according to the company. The tool uses a unique whisker ceramic binder, which enhances tool life and reduces insert indexes, and uses silicon carbide crystals to add tensile strength and fracture toughness to the grade. It can achieve depths up to 0.020” at cutting speeds of 900 to 1,800 sfpm.
