Trial Begins In 2 Philadelphia Food Plant Killings
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A security guard at a Philadelphia food plant says he opened the gate for an armed employee before a shooting that left two people dead.
Guard Mark Bentley is testifying at Yvonne Hiller's double-murder trial about the night Hiller was suspended from Kraft Foods in September 2010.
He says Hiller returned, pointed a gun at him in the guardhouse and demanded he open the gate.
Bentley says he wasn't armed and complied.
Witnesses say the 45-year-old Hiller was suspended after arguing with co-workers. They say she thought co-workers were spraying her with chemicals that smelled like deer urine.
Hiller faces life in prison if convicted at Monday's nonjury trial of first-degree murder.
Prosecutors have agreed not to seek the death penalty. In return, Hiller won't rely on an insanity defense.
