JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Two Johnstown-area defense contractors plan to expand plants due to new military contracts worth more than $55 million.
Kongsberg Protech Systems USA Corp., based in Richland Township, will perform work on two contracts worth a combined $17.3 million, along with a Kongsberg plant in Bellport, N.Y. Those contracts include making electronic components for Army Stryker vehicles and a towed Howitzer artillery cannon.
Kongsberg has 185 employees at the Johnstown-area plant, which is expanding so it can deliver the new products.
Martin-Baker America, in nearby Stonycreek Township, will make troop transport seats for Blackhawk helicopters as part of a $40.5 million Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. contract with the military, and also plans to expand. Martin-Baker has 125 plant employees.
The Tribune-Democrat of Johnstown (http://bit.ly/R2dzeq  ) says the contracts were announced Tuesday by Johnstown Area Regional Industries.
