GE To Expand SC Aviation Business, Hire 140
GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — General Electric Co.'s aviation business says it will expand operations in South Carolina and add 100 jobs by 2013.
The state Department of Commerce announced Tuesday that GE Aviation will move from its 50,000 square-foot building in Greenville to a 150,000 square-foot site in the city. About 140 employees now work at the current facility.
Greenville GE Aviation plant leader Jennifer Smith says the larger building will allow the company to continue to grow and meet its customers' needs. The facility makes turbine blades used in commercial aircraft engines and plans to add coating technologies to its operations.
The company will start the relocation in November. It will begin filling the new positions next year.
