TOKYO, Aug. 22 (Kyodo) — Toshiba Corp. is considering shutting down its television manufacturing plant in Poland as part of measures to restructure its struggling television business, sources close to the matter said Thursday.

But Toshiba will sell the plant if it finds a buyer, the sources said.

Like other major Japanese electronics makers, Toshiba is striving to make its loss-making liquid crystal display TV business profitable. It is aiming to return to the black in the second half of the current business year through March.

Toshiba currently produces TVs in Poland, China, Indonesia and Egypt.

Utilization of the Polish factory has been sluggish amid the prolonged economic slump in the eurozone, and the company has judged that TV demand in Europe is unlikely to recover, the sources said.

Toshiba will also stop making TVs at its Chinese plant and outsource production, the sources said.

The Chinese plant will be used to manufacture medical equipment, they said.
