TOKYO, April 16 (Kyodo) — Honda Motor Co. opened to the press on Tuesday an environmentally friendly auto production plant in Saitama Prefecture near Tokyo scheduled to start operations in July.

With green technologies including an advanced energy management system and solar power generation equipment introduced at the new plant, Honda will be able to cut the amount of carbon dioxide emission per production of a vehicle by around 30 percent compared with existing factories, making it one of the most energy-efficient plants in the world, according to the company.

The new plant dedicated to small car production has an annual production capacity of 250,000 vehicles and will mainly produce models such as the new Fit hybrid car, which is equipped with a state-of-the-art hybrid system.
