PA Packaging Plant To Lay Off 53 Of 125
FRANKLIN, Pa. (AP) — A packaging and labeling plant in northwestern Pennsylvania plans to lay off 53 of 125 workers because it's moving some work to plants in Ohio and Wisconsin.
WS Packaging Inc. spokesman Steve Bishara tells The Associated Press that two different types of label printing operations are housed in the plant in Sandycreek Township, near Franklin. That's about 70 miles north of Pittsburgh. One of the operations is moving to the other plants.
The Derrick of Oil City (http://bit.ly/LyPLOY ) first reported the layoffs Tuesday. Bishara confirmed the layoffs are effective Aug. 31, but said the affected workers have already been notified and will receive severance pay and help finding other jobs.
Parent company WS Packaging Group Inc. is based in Green Bay, Wis. The company's web site says it has 19 locations in 11 states and Mexico.
