First 747-8 To Be Delivered Wednesday

Wed, 10/12/2011 - 9:03am

CHICAGO (AP) — Boeing says it will finally deliver its new 747-8 freighter plane after resolving a contract dispute with its first customer, Cargolux, a cargo hauler based in Luxembourg.

The revamped cargo plane was supposed to go to Cargolux last month.

Cargolux isn't wasting time putting the plane to work. After being picked up in Everett, Wash., on Wednesday, it will stop in Seattle to pick up cargo.

Boeing Co. has been making 747s since 1969. But this new version makes significant changes, including a longer fuselage and the ability to carry more weight.

The plane first flew in February 2010. It was originally supposed to have been delivered about two years ago.

Boeing also plans a new passenger version that is scheduled to go to its first airline customer next year.
