$30M Turbine Plant Put On Hold

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) — A project to build a $30 million wind turbine manufacturing plant at the Port of Muskogee has been put on hold.

Eagle Claw Fabrication president Tom Word told the Muskogee Phoenix (http://bit.ly/nqgwPY) a sluggish economy and hesitation by private investors have slowed construction.

Eagle Claw had anticipated hiring up to 175 people, and to build the plant in three phases on a 44-acre tract it is leasing for 25 years.

The lease requires construction to begin by Dec. 31, and will have to be modified in order for Eagle Claw to avoid default.

Word's other company, Word Industries, is fabricating piping and metering equipment for the petroleum industry in Tulsa. Word says that work could be moved to the Port of Muskogee once a facility is built there.
