General Dynamics Wins $35M Army Contract

Tue, 08/16/2011 - 9:17am

FALLS CHURCH, Va. (AP) — General Dynamics Corp. said Tuesday its Ordnance and Tactical Systems unit has been awarded a $35.6 million contract by the U.S. Army to make and deliver ammunition cartridges.

Work will be performed at the company's Marion, Ill., operations.

The ammunition called for in the order is primarily used by the Apache AH-64 helicopter, widely used in current combat operations. The defense contractor says the Apache's ability to provide accurate air support with minimal collateral damage led to increased demand for the ammunition.

The Army awarded General Dynamics a contract last year to build a new manufacturing facility specifically for the ammunition. The production line was completed earlier this year.

General Dynamics shares fell 96 cents to $61.81 in afternoon trading.
