BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — A four-alarm fire has consumed a Buffalo, N.Y., plant that makes industrial lubricants, sending up plumes of thick, black smoke and leading firefighters to warn residents to keep their windows closed.

The fire started before 6 a.m. Wednesday at the Niagara Lubricant Co. in the city's Black Rock neighborhood. Firefighters were still on the scene 12 hours later.

While the fire roared, several explosions were heard inside the three-story building. Crews were ordered out and battled the blaze from outside. Fire officials called for a Buffalo Niagara International Airport foam truck.

Niagara Lubricant's website says the nearly 90-year-old company makes and packages lubricating oils, greases, industrial oils and tire care products.

There were no reports of injuries or a possible cause.
