Ford Pulls Escape SUV From MO Assembly Plant

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — A union president says Ford will stop making the Escape at its Kansas City area plant near the end of next year.

United Auto Workers local president Jeff Wright said Tuesday that Ford Motor Co. plans to build the next generation of the sport utility vehicle at a plant in Louisville, Ky.

A Ford spokesman declined to discuss the company's plans for the Escape or its Claycomo assembly plant near Kansas City.

But Wright says Ford has indicated it would bring a new product to Claycomo if Missouri approves new tax incentives for the company.

The union has teamed up with dozens of businesses and economic development groups to form a new coalition supporting the incentives legislation. A special session of the Legislature is to begin Thursday.
