DETROIT (AP) — General Motors Co. says it will bring back 600 workers and add equipment at two Canadian factories in order to turn out more hot-selling midsize crossover vehicles.

The company said Friday that it will beef up the body-making capacity at its plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, where it assembles the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain crossovers.

GM will ship Equinox bodies to a factory in Oshawa, Ontario, which will work around-the-clock to paint and assemble the vehicles.

GM also will hire about 70 new workers at the Ingersoll plant. The company hopes to add the equipment and start making more Equinoxes in October.

The Terrain and Equinox are like sport utility vehicles but can get up to 32 mpg on the highway. Dealers have complained that they can't keep the vehicles in stock.
