TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Members of the Machinists Union have voted to approve a new three-year contract, averting a possible strike at Raytheon Missile Systems Inc.

About 75 percent of the bargaining unit's dues-paying members met Sunday at the Tucson Convention Center and overwhelmingly approved the new contract. That's according to Jim Watson, directing business representative of Local 933 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.

Watson didn't disclose the ballot tally.

The vote ratified a tentative agreement that union and company officials reached last week.

Local 933 workers represents 1,750 hourly workers at Raytheon.

The new agreement runs through 2012. It provides for general wage increases of 2.75 percent this year and next year, and 2.5 percent in 2011.
