CUDAHY, Wis. (AP) — Operations are slowly returning to normal at the southeastern Wisconsin meatpacking plant where a fire last week gutted part of one building.
The blaze at Patrick Cudahy Inc. caused an estimated $50 million in damages.
About 1,400 production workers were idled for days, but some are being called back.
Company spokesman Bill Otis says 300 production workers returned to work Monday morning. That's in addition to 300 administrative employees and 100 distribution workers who went back last week.
That leaves another 1,100 total workers still idle.
The plant is in Cudahy, a Milwaukee suburb of about 18,000 people.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
