TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) — Carmakers will squeeze more miles out gasoline and diesel engines to meet the tougher fuel economy standards announced by the government last week, the CEO of Chrysler said Wednesday. Sergio Marchionne, also head of Italy's Fiat SpA, said changes to the internal combustion engine, and not electric or hydrogen fuel cell technology, will be the answer to meeting the new standards.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Businesses cut back on orders for airplanes, autos and heavy machinery in June, lowering demand for factory goods for the second time in three months. The Commerce Department said Wednesday that orders to U.S. factories fell 0.8 percent in June. A key category that tracks business investment plans managed a small increase, offering a positive sign amid other gloomy reports on the economy.

LOUIS (AP) — Locked-out Honeywell workers at a southern Illinois plant that helps make nuclear fuel agreed Tuesday to a three-year contract, ending a labor dispute that festered for more than a year in the otherwise tranquil confines of Superman's adoptive hometown. The ratification of the deal reached about two weeks ago does not mean the roughly 230 union-backed workers in Metropolis will return immediately to their Honeywell jobs at the nation's only site that begins refining uranium for eventual use in nuclear power plants.
ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — Defense contractor BAE Systems PLC said Tuesday that it has won a $108.4 million contract modification to provide 45 vehicles and parts for the U.S. Army and Marine Corps. The contract calls for it to provide 29 of the M88A2 Hercules vehicles to the Army and 16 to the Marines, beginning in April 2013 and running through December 2013.
SALINE, Mich. (AP) — Ford Motor Co. says there's a tentative deal to sell a Saline auto parts plant to a French components maker. Ford spokeswoman Della DiPietro said Tuesday a memorandum of understanding was signed for a sale to Faurecia SA. The French automaker PSA Peugeot Citroen SA is Faurecia's majority owner.
TOKYO (AP) — Toyota has told its suppliers in Japan to prepare for ramped up production in 2012 and following years, signaling that the automaker is confident it's back on a growth track after being hit by massive recalls and the tsunami disaster. Toyota Motor Corp. spokesman Paul Nolasco said Wednesday that there was a meeting with suppliers earlier this week so they could be ready to increase production.
DALLAS (AP) — A worker has died following an industrial accident at a Dallas bakery. Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans say the accident happened early Tuesday at CSM Bakery Products. Rescue crews arrived to find the man trapped by a piece of machinery. Evans says the man was crushed after somehow ending up on a conveyor belt.
NAZARETH, Pa. (AP) — A fire has destroyed an eastern Pennsylvania recycling plant and sent massive clouds of black smoke high into the air. The fire began Tuesday morning at Nicos Polymers Group in Plainfield Township, 55 miles north of Philadelphia. Two hundred firefighters spent much of the day knocking down the heavy flames at the 180,000-square-foot fabricated steel structure.
A new Bulk Bag Filling Line from Flexicon (Bethlehem, PA) automatically dispenses pallets, fills bulk bags, and accumulates filled bags for removal by forklift.
